2009 Kentucky Book Fair Grant Awarded to the Louisville Free Public Library Foundation

2008 Grants from the
Kentucky Book Fair

The Kentucky Book Fair, Inc. has awarded eight (8) grants to public and school libraries. This nonprofit organization was founded to coordinate the annual Kentucky Book Fair with proceeds supporting Kentucky’s libraries. Grants were presented at the Kentucky Library Association Conference in Louisville on Thursday, October 2, 2008.

This year, grants were given in memory of Molly Cone who died May 22, 2008. Because of her extensive contributions to the Kentucky Book Fair over a ten year period; donations were received commemorating her support of the organization.

Molly was an active Kentucky Book Fair Board Member from 1987 – 1997. She served on the Executive Committee and Chair of the Publicity Committee. Her responsibilities included developing and maintaining news contacts, designing and writing the Kentucky Book Fair Program and author recruitment. In 1993, she was co-manager of the event. Molly always worked tirelessly for the Book Fair while working full time as Assistant to the Commissioner of the Department for Libraries and Archives.

Since the inception of the Kentucky Book Fair in 1981, over $300,000 has been awarded to Kentucky libraries. Our 27 year history shows that each year approximately 150 authors attend to autograph copies of their latest books, and as many as 5,000 patrons attend and purchase over $150,000 in gross sales.
